FARGO, N.D.–The Ohio State University pistol team trekked to Fargo, N.D., for a sectional match-up versus North Dakota State. The scores from this event are submitted as a qualification score for the national championships held in March. The Buckeyes came out on top by shooting an Open score 6,708 compared to NDSU’s 6,088 final tally. In women’s only competition, Ohio State was also victorious 3,174 to 3,129.

School records were broken left and right while in Fargo. As a team, the Buckeyes’ 6,708 overall Open total is the highest in Ohio State history. The Open Sport team of Katelyn Abeln, Samuel Gens, Cade Haiby and Shrenik Jain set a new all-time mark of 2,285 with Abeln and Gens both setting the individual high of 575. The Buckeyes crushed Open Air as well, compiling yet another school record with 2,259 coming from Abeln, Gens, Jain and Con Marrinan.
More individual bests were set by Abeln (571, Women’s Air; 1,146 2-gun aggregate) and Gens (1,695 3-gun aggregate).
Notable highlights from the match include Ohio State taking first through sixth in Open Air Pistol, first through seventh in Standard Pistol and first through seventh place in Open Sport Pistol with Abeln and Gens tying for first. Gens also scored first in Standard Pistol and second in Air Pistol. Abeln came in at first in Women’s Sport Pistol and third in Standard Pistol. Finally, Marrinan tied for second with Gens in Air Pistol.
The team is back in action next weekend as they host the Collegiate Pistol Sectionals.
