COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State rifle team dominated the NRA/NCAA qualifying match by a near sweep, taking both team events and five of the six individual places Saturday in Columbus.
The five-member scoring team in both air and smallbore for OSU consisted of co-captain Amanda Furrer, Amanda Luoma, Lauren Alman, Nicholas Novello, and Max Snyderman. Furrer took first place in both individual events with a 586 in air rifle and a 579 in smallbore. Runner-up in smallbore was John Hupp of Akron, also tallying a 579 but losing the tie breaker to Furrer. Luoma came in third with a 578.
In air rifle, OSU’s trio of Furrer, Luoma and Alman all tied at 586, but after the tie-breaking system, finished one, two and three in that order.
The team and individuals must wait for the national office to tabulate scores shot around the nation to determine if they will qualify for the national finals hosted by OSU March 9 and 10.
Acting Coach Donna Knisley will take the team to the conference championship Feb. 24-25 at Michigan State. The Bucks are defending conference champions.
