IRVINE, Calif. – Four Buckeyes appeared in final heats on the third day of USA Swimming Phillips 66 National Championships on Friday, swimming among the nation’s elite at the William Woollett Aquatic Center in Irvine, Calif.
Molly Kowal added her second Top 15 finish of the USA Swimming National Championships, placing 14th in the 400 IM with a time of 4:47.30. Her prelim time of 4:47.17 set a new personal record and dropped 2.23 seconds off her previous best, placing her first in the sixth heat.
Hanna Gresser tied for 13th in the 50 Breast final, clocking in at 32.04 after swimming a personal-best time of 31.83 in the prelim and knocking 1.25 seconds off her previous best. On the men’s side, incoming freshman Jason Mathews made an appearance in the 50 Breast final. He took 22nd after placing 26th in the preliminary and being seeded 44th, and his prelim time of 28.34 sets a personal best.
In the women’s 50 Back final, Marianne Kahmann was on fire with a time of 28.81, a career-best and improving on her prelim time of 28.93. Seeded 76th, Kahmann made a significant jump with her 22nd-place finish in the final.
The Buckeyes will be back in action tomorrow with preliminaries at 12 p.m. ET and finals at 9 p.m. ET. OSU has athletes in the 400 Free, 100 Breast and 100 Back.
