The eight Buckeye swimmers who traveled to Oxford, Ohio last week to compete in the Miami Invitational finished fifth of nine teams with a score of 716 points.

Freshman Griet Buelens (Fr., Kapelle, Belgium/Ursulinen Mechelen) recorded four Top-3 individual finishes, including two first-place finishes. She won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:02.08 and the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:54.87. Her other finishes included a second-place effort in the 200-yard freestyle and third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly.

The Buckeye relay teams finished in the Top-4 in all four events in which they competed. That included a win in the 400-yard medley relay. The women placed second in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay, along with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Rebekah Rychvalsky (So., Sydney, Australia/Castle Hill) won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.40. Gulsah Gunenc (So., Edirne, Turkey/Edirne Anatolian) placed third in the 400-yard individual medley, fourth in the 100-yard butterfly and sixth in the 200-yard individual medley. Junior Nicole Maglich (Jr., Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota) placed second in the 400-yard individual medley and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle. In the 100-yard backstroke, senior Katie Kolles (Sr., Edina, Minn./Edina) and sophomore Stephanie Fennell (So., Campbellville, Ontarion/Milton District) placed third and fourth, respectively. “The girls we took swam great,” said head coach Jeanne Fleck. “We had several life time bests by Ashley Barnes and a lot of season bests. We are looking forward to traveling to Naples to train this weekend.”

The Buckeyes will travel to Florida Atlantic University Dec. 18 at 1 p.m. for a quad meet against Clemson, FAU and Utah.
