COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State pistol team hosted the Midwest Collegiate Pistol Sectionals, Feb. 1-2, at the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range. The Buckeyes swept all five events, posting scores that will determine their qualification to advance to the Collegiate Nationals held at Fort Benning, Ga., March 10-14.

The Buckeyes earned an overall aggregate score of 6,358 to defeat Purdue, who totaled a 5,282. Individual competitors from Michigan State and Akron were also in attendance.

Ohio State swept the open events, shooting a 2,018 in free pistol, a 2,148 in standard pistol and a 2,192 in air pistol. Senior Jason Reineck paced the Buckeyes in free pistol, tallying a 529 to place first. He was followed by classmate Gary Reburn, who tallied a 506 to place second.

Junior Joe Totts scored a 562 to take first place and lead the Buckeyes in standard pistol. Behind Totts, sophomore Greyson McCaig scored a 538 to place second and Reburn scored a 528 to place third.

Totts also placed first in air pistol, notching a 557 for his second win of the day. Junior Kimberly  Hullings scored a 548 to place second and McCaig notched a 547 to place third.

Hullings also swept both events for the Buckeyes in women’s competition, winning women’s air pistol with a score of 360 and women’s sport pistol with a score of 556.

Sophomore Rachael Mullaney placed third in both women’s air and women’s sport pistol, tallying a 556 and 345, respectively.

The Buckeyes earned an overall aggregate score of 2,620 in women’s competition to defeat Akron, who scored a 2,296.


Ohio State has a brief break before returning to action Feb. 23 at the University of Akron. The match is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
