LOS ANGELES, Calif. – NCAA WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT POST-MATCH QUOTES Pacific Regional Semifinal December 6, 2001 Los Angeles Sports Arena USC vs. Ohio State

Ohio State Head Coach Jim Stone “We felt before the match that we had to played great to win. We played hard tonight, but not great. We made too many mistakes, especially in serving and gave away too many points to expect to win against a good opponent. Tomorrow night’s match should be an interesting one.”

“USC is a big physical team that if you set a percentage of high balls, you are going to struggle against their block. Our defense was shaky.”

Ohio State junior middle blocker Suzie Stiling “USC is a big and tall team and they are going to get their blocks. We had to pass well tonight and we showed at times we could hit well when we split their blocks.”

USC Head Coach Mick Haley “Honestly, we didn’t expect a 3-0 win. Ohio State is a very fine team. Our performance was very good tonight and we know we will have to be better tomorrow against Arizona. Katie Olsovsky’s blocking was exceptional tonight. She was a force and we are pleased with the way she’s coming along. April Ross was great in the back court and our dig-to-kill ratio was very good. Toni Anderson set a marvelous match and did an extremely fine job of distributing the ball. Alicia Robinson had three big kills for us in the third game at the start. The entire team really attacked Ohio State with our serve. I give our ladies a five-star rating for that alone.”

“Arizona will be an interesting match. We played two matches this season against them and Arizona played well in both matches. We will be ready for them this time. We were disappointed with our performance in Tucson and this will be a worthy opponent for sure.” “We can play better and will have to in order to beat Arizona. The good thing is we are on an upswing right now. You don’t want to peak too early. I think this team is right on schedule. Our plan is pretty close to being accurate and we’ll see if we can finish off the next level tomorrow night.”

USC senior middle blocker Jennifer Pahl “I felt that we played consistent and at our pace tonight. We took a couple of points to get into it, but we got into a rhythm. The setters made some very good choices. It was a team effort out there.”

USC sophomore outside hitter April Ross “At this time of year, all teams are going to be on their game. Everyone is excited. Hopefully, I think tomorrow will be even more exciting. We prepared well for tonight’s match.”

USC sophomore middle blocker Katie Olsovsky “We played great as a team. We stayed focused and put it all together. Our defense and blocking worked very well.”
