COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team defeated the Bowling Green Falcons, 6-2, today at the BGSU Softball Field as the Buckeyes notched 10 hits for their 18th win this season. Senior pitcher Toni Hileman collected the win, after only giving up two hits and no earned runs in four innings of play. She is now 4-5 for the season.
Ohio State opened the first inning as Jennifer Link notched an RBI-single to score Anna Smith. Three batters later, with the bases loaded, Sarah West was walked to send Link home. Kristine Himes followed with an RBI-single for the 3-0 lead.
Both teams did not score until the top of the fifth inning when Himes notched another RBI-single to the shortstop. Chrissy Fowler followed with a single to the third baseman to score West. She would then cause a rundown at second base as Himes stole home.
The Falcons would rally back in the bottom of the inning adding two runs off two OSU errors.
Ohio State prevailed with Himes leading the Buckeyes offensively, going 3-for-3, with one double and one RBI. She now holds a .247 batting average with 21 hits and 18 RBI this season.
Katie Chain relieved Hileman in the fifth, giving up two hits and striking out one in three innings of solid pitching. BGSU’s McKenna Houle posted the loss, after going five innings and giving up three runs on nine hits.
Ohio State will next compete against Michigan in a doubleheader in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Friday (2 p.m.) They will wrap up the weekend in East Lansing, Mich. taking on the Spartans on Saturday (2 p.m) and Sunday (1 p.m.)
