COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team defeated Ball State 8-0 in Game 1 of a doubleheader Sunday in Muncie, Ind. The second game was called in the bottom of the seventh inning with a 0-0 score due to darkness.

Ohio State freshman Chelsea Baker (Gahanna, Ohio/DeSales) picked up the win on the mound for the Buckeyes in Game 1. OSU collected four runs in the fourth inning from Nicole Lancaster (Fr., Magnolia, Ohio/Sandy Valley), Kristine Himes (Sr., Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley), Annie Dedic (Sr., Yorba Linda, Calif./Fullerton J.C.) and Baker. Three more runs were added in the sixth from Kristi DeVries (Jr., Corona, Calif./Corona), Karisa Evans (So., Franklin, Ohio/Franklin) and Breana Pozzi (Jr., Petaluma, Calif./Casa Grande) while Beth McAbier (Jr., Carrollton, Ohio/Carrollton)scored in the seventh. Himes went 3-for-3 in the game with two doubles and a single to lead the Buckeyes at the plate.

Andrea Tribuzi (Fr., Plano, Texas/Plano East) made the start on the mound for the Buckeyes in the second game before play was stopped.

Ohio State completed fall action with a 7-0-1 record. The Scarlet and Gray World Series will be held in a best-of-three series Oct. 15, 16, 18, 21 and 22 at Buckeye Field. The season officially opens for OSU Feb. 7 in Miami, Fla. against Florida Atlantic in tournament action.
