COLUMBUS, Ohio – With the fall NCAA Championships complete, Ohio State currently sits 12th in the final fall Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings. The Buckeyes finished in the Top 25 nationally in women’s soccer, field hockey, women’s volleyball and men’s cross country.
The women’s soccer, field hockey and women’s volleyball teams each finished ninth while men’s cross country recorded a 23rd place finish.
Women’s soccer advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament, concluding the season with a 12-9-2 record and a second-consecutive Sweet 16 appearance. Field hockey also reached the NCAA Tournament, finishing the 2011 campaign with a 12-9 overall record and a 4-2 mark in Big Ten play.
Women’s volleyball finished the season with a 21-15 record, reached the Sweet Sixteen for the second-consecutive season and notched their third-straight season with 20-plus wins.Men’s cross country, with a combined team score of 538, secured a Top 25 finish at the national championships for the 11th time in school history and sixth time under the direction of head coach Robert Gary.
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 20 sports — 10 women’s and 10 men’s.
The first winter Division I standings will be released Thursday, March 22.
