EVANSTON, Ill. – Behind a pair of goals from Tiffany Cameron, the Ohio State women’s soccer team defeated Northwestern, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Field. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 7-3-0, 2-1-0 in Big Ten play, while the Wildcats fall to 4-5-2, 0-3-0 in conference play.
The Buckeyes came out strong in the first half with four shots and three corners over the first 10 minutes but were unable to find the back of the net in a scoreless first 45 minutes.
Northwestern held an 8-5 lead in shots, including 2-1 on goal in the first half. Ohio State held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Ohio State then took the lead in the 58th minute when Cameron tallied her eighth goal of the season, finishing far post from 15 yards out on the right wing off an assist from Lauren Granberg to put the Buckeyes up 1-0.
Cameron then added another from 10 yards out in the 74th minute off an assist from freshman Marisa Wolf to put the Buckeyes up 2-0. Granberg almost tacked on one more for the Buckeyes in the 78th minute but the shot hit the crossbar and deflected away.
For the game, Ohio State held a narrow 15-14 advantage in shots, including 7-3 on frame. Cameron tallied six shots, three on goal, while goalkeepers Rachel Middleman and Jillian McVicker combined for the Buckeyes’ sixth clean sheet of the season.
Ohio State hosts Penn State at 8 p.m. Thursday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
