Bloomington, Ind. – The Ohio State women’s soccer team topped Central Michigan, 2-0, Friday afternoon in Bloomington, Ind. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 5-1-1 on the season while the Chippewas drop to 0-5-1.
The Buckeyes jumped out to the early 1-0 lead just over seven minutes in when Danica Wu drilled a shot from 20 yards out into the upper left corner off an assist from Ellyn Gruber for her first goal of the season.
Ohio State controlled possession the rest of the first half but was unable to break through as it was a 1-0 game heading into the half. The Buckeyes held a 9-3 advantage in shots, including 3-1 on goal, and led 4-0 in corners.
The Buckeyes continued to play well to start the second half, outshooting the Chippewas 9-0 through the first 15 minutes after the break, before Gruber scored on a header in the 68th minute.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net the rest of the way as Ohio State came away with the 2-0 win to move to 5-1-1 on the season. For the game, the Buckeyes held a 25-8 lead in shots, with both teams putting five on frame.
Ohio State takes on St. John’s at 11 a.m. Sunday.
