COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Rifle team fired a team score of 4662, tying the University of Nebraska on Saturday in Lincoln.
In smallbore the Buckeyes fired a team score of 2310 led by junior Drew Cheezum who fired a season best 586. Freshman Jacob Buchanan also posted his season best firing a 580. Fellow freshman Rhiann Travis (577), and juniors Mark Matheny (567) and Josh Black (567) rounded out team scoring for Ohio State. Firing as individuals, sophomores Quintin Wotring and Michael Steinel fired scores of 577 and 574 respectively.
In air rifle Ohio State fired a team score of 2352 led by Rhiann Travis who fired a 591. Drew Cheezum and Mark Matheny both posted scores of 590 while Jacob Buchanan (581) and Josh Black (580) rounded out team scoring for the Buckeyes. Firing as individuals, Michael Steinel posted his season best score of 594 while Quintin Wotring fired a 576.
“Although the overall result wasn’t what we were hoping for on Saturday there were certainly some fantastic individual moments from much of the team,” said head coach Ryan Tanoue. “We are still pushing towards putting together a complete team performance and our next chances are right in front of us this coming weekend in El Paso.”
Ohio State returns to action this coming weekend with matches against TCU (Saturday) and UTEP (Sunday) in El Paso, Texas.
