COLUMBUS, Ohio – Eight players found the back of the net and Ohio State scored seven of the last eight goals of the game as the men’s lacrosse team defeated Air Force, 10-6, Saturday afternoon in the Showdown in the ‘Shoe at Ohio Stadium in front of 31,078 fans. The figure set a national record for on-campus and regular-season attendance, a mark Ohio State (7-6, 3-3 ECAC) has set and subsequently broken each of the last three years.

Buckeye leading scorer freshman Logan Schuss led Ohio State with four points off a pair of goals and assists and senior goalie Brandon Freeman made 11 saves, including five in the fourth quarter, giving the team its ninth win in the last 10 meetings with the Falcons (1-11, 0-5 ECAC).

The first quarter ended with a 3-3 tie after James Green and Mike Pires helped Ohio State to a two-goal lead to open the game. Air Force fired back with a pair of unassisted tallies from Zack Carroll and Green swapped scores with the Falcons in the final 5:05 of the period.

Air Force’s run continued into the second as it fired off two more, including a career-high tying third by Carroll, to give the Falcons their first lead of the game but Andrew Stimmel’s goal at the 3-minute mark sparked the Buckeye attack into action. With Stimmel’s score – his first this season – Ohio State started a 7-1 run that would span until game’s end.

Still down 5-4, however, the Buckeyes tied the game off a Jeff Tundo goal from Schuss with five seconds remaining in the half to send the teams into intermission with a 5-5 score.

After a fruitless nine minutes on both sides to open the second half, Paul Gaski scored for the Falcons at 5:44 to regain the lead for Air Force, but the Buckeyes quickly countered and took the game over by the close of the third quarter. Eddie Bambino tied it at six and Mario Ventiquattro scored what would stand as the game-winner with 1:17 to play in the third.

The Buckeyes would go on to add three insurance goals in the fourth with Mike Smail netting his sixth of the season and Schuss adding the final two to extend his team-leading points total to 43 (22g, 21a) this season.

The Buckeyes led the shot count 40-31 and held a 29-21 margin in ground balls.

Ohio State returns to action next weekend, hosting Bellarmine at 1 p.m. Saturday in Ohio Stadium and part of the ECAC Game of the Week series. The Buckeyes remain in the hallowed football stadium because of the Jesse Owens Track Classic at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Postgame Notes
The attendance topped the mark of 30,192 last season and 29,601 in the inaugural event in 2008.

Schuss now has a team-high 21 assists and 43 points and is second with 22 goals. He has at least one point in all 13 of his games for the Scarlet and Gray, with multiple points in all but two.

Green leads Ohio State with a career-best 23 goals and has at least one tally in all 13 games this season.

Tundo is second for the squad with 12 assists and 32 poitns and ranks third with 20 goals. He is on a five-game scoring streak (9-8-17).

Freeman had double-digit saves for the ninth time this season.

The six goals scored by Air Force matched Ohio State’s opponent season low this season, set vs. Albany and Hobart.
