COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State Women’s Volleyball has been selected as the No. 12 overall seed for the 2015 NCAA Tournament; and will host First and Second Round matches inside St. John Arena this upcoming weekend (Dec. 4-5). The Buckeyes face Robert Morris University in the opening round on Friday at 7 p.m. ET while the University of Kentucky and American University square off at 4:30 p.m. in the other first round meeting in Columbus.
Friday, Dec. 4
4:30 p.m. – American (27-6) vs. Kentucky (21-9)
7 p.m. – Ohio State (23-9) vs. Robert Morris (19-12)
Saturday, Dec. 5
5:30 p.m. – American/Kentucky winner vs. Ohio State/Robert Morris winner
This marks Ohio State’s 21st NCAA Tournament qualification all-time, including five of the last six seasons. The Buckeyes are 31-20 (.620) overall in the NCAA Tourney and have advanced to the ‘Sweet 16 70 percent of the time (14 of 20 postseason appearances). Geoff Carlston has led the charge to four Sweet 16′ showings and 11 NCAA Tournament berths in 13 seasons as a Division-I head coach (Ohio 2003-07; Ohio State 2008-present).
Ohio State is 3-0 all-time against the Colonials of Robert Morris. Friday’s clash will mark the third meeting between the Buckeyes and RMU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Ohio State ended the Colonials’ season in back-to-back years (2001-02) with first round defeats in Columbus.
Ohio State is one of nine Big Ten institutions to make the 64-team field; joined by Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin. Five conference institutions will host the opening weekend as top-16 seeds.
