COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior winger Eric Meloche recorded his first career hat trick to lead the Ohio State hockey team to an 8-1 win over the University of Windsor Sunday afternoon in Value City Arena.

%^$The game was considered an exhibition by the NCAA and will not count as an official win for the Buckeyes. The statistics are also unofficial.

%^$Ray Aho went the distance in goal for Ohio State and made 15 saves. Ohio State outshot Windsor 50-16, including 23-7 in the first period.

%^$”I was happy with the way we played today,” OSU head coach John Markell said. “We did some things well. There were a few mental lapses here and there, but overall we showed today that we’re ready to enter league play.”

%^$Ohio State begins CCHA play this weekend, travelling to Alaska-Fairbanks games on Friday and Saturday.

%^$Freshman Miguel Lafleche opened the scoring against Windsor with a nifty wrist shot goal at 2:19 of the first period. It marked the second straight game that Lafleche has scored a goal on his first shift of the night.

%^$Meloche got his first two goals later in the first period, the second of which came on the power-play at 18:48. Bot of Meloche’s first period goals were assisted by Mike McCormick and Andre Signoretti.

%^$Yan Des Gagne scored OSU’s fourth goal at 11:15 in the second period after Ryan Jestadt created a turnover in the neutral zone. Six minutes later, Nick Ganga fired a shot from the crease past the Windsor goalie for his second goal in as many games.

%^$Jason Crain and Meloche each scored power-play goals early in the third period. Jean-Francois Dufour scored OSU’s eight goal on a rebound from a Nick Ganga shot.

%^$Signoretti and McCormick each had three assists. Ganga recorded two assists and a goal for OSU.
