Ohio State Places 11th at NCAA Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Buckeyes moved up three spots to finish 11th at the 2023 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships with 112 total points.

Ohio State has finished in the top 11 for four consecutive seasons. It is the most consecutive top-11 finishes for Ohio State since 1969-75, when the team earned seven straight.

Over four days of competition, the Buckeyes earned 23 All-America honors, including six First Team All-Americans. Lyle Yost was the national champion on the 1-meter, becoming the first Buckeye since 1988 to win the 1-meter dive and first Buckeye since 2016 to win an individual title in any event.

Ohio State had the second-best finish of competing Big Ten teams; Indiana finished in fourth with 379 points.

Meet Notes

  • Charlie Clark opened the night strong for the Buckeyes, earning a seventh-place finish in the 1650 free to earn First Team All-America recognition. Clark turned in a time of 14:41.43.
  • Ruslan Gaziev earned the highest finish by a Buckeye in a swimming event, placing fourth in the 100 free with a program-record time of 40.98. He broke his previous program record of 41.38, which he set at the Big Ten Championships just a few weeks ago, twice on Saturday; he swam a 41.34 in the prelims. Gaziev earned First Team All-America honors.
  • Lyle Yost and Clayton Chaplin competed in the championship final of the platform dive. Yost was the only diver at the meet to advance to the championship final in all three dives (1-meter, 3-meter, platform).
  • Chaplin earned a sixth-place finish on the platform with an overall score of 393.55 and Yost tied for sixth place with a score of 366.35. Both Chaplin and Yost collected First Team All-America accolades.
  • The Buckeyes closed out the NCAA Championships with an Honorable Mention All-America performance in the 400 free relay. The relay team of Gaziev, James Ward, Mario McDonald and Daniel Baltes finished in 2:49.94 to place 15th.
