Ohio State Opens Spring Schedule at Penn State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team is set to begin its spring campaign with four games in State College, Pa. this weekend. The Buckeyes, who finished 12-8 during the regular season, will face the Nittany Lions and St. Joseph’s Hawks, with three games on Saturday and one on Sunday.

KNOW THY OPPONENTS

The Buckeyes met Penn State during the 2018 season, dropping a 3-2 battle that was decided in the final minutes of the game. Penn State finished the season 12-6 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

The last time that Ohio State and St. Joseph’s played each other in the regular season was in 1998. The Hawks ended the 2018 season with an 18-3 overall record and with an unblemished 8-0 record n conference play.

BUCKEYES IN A NUTSHELL

  • The Buckeyes will play three weekends of spring competition starting next weekend. The team will then travel to Ann Arbor before finishing the season at Louisville.
  • Of the team’s seven opponents, six were on the Buckeyes’ 2018 regular season schedule (Penn State, St. Joseph’s, Louisville, Michigan, Kent State, Michigan State and Indiana). The team earned a 4-2 record over those teams last season.
  • The Ohio State field hockey team will welcome four new players in the fall of 2019. They include Sarah Charley, Mackenzie Allessie, Leanne Bough, and Delaney Lawler.
  • This off-season, 17 student-athletes were named to the 2018 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad. The group consisted of 10 freshmen, four sophomores, two juniors and one senior. Kelsey Nolan is one of 128 Division I seniors this year who have earned the distinction all four years of her career.
  • Ohio State is one of 76 programs to have earned the 2018 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I Academic Team Award. The honor was awarded to programs that earn a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester of the 2018-19 school year.
  • Senior Casey Cole, along with 13 other Ohio State student-athletes, traveled to Mexico this past December to take part in a service-learning trip. The group performed maintenance and upkeep at local schools, facilitated sports lessons and assisted at a veterinary clinic in the Playa del Carmen area. Along with service projects, the Buckeyes participated in a variety of cultural immersion activities and educational opportunities.
