BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Buckeye senior Lee Spector scored in overtime to cap a 4-3 comeback win for the Ohio State men’s hockey team over Ferris State Saturday in Ewigleben Ice Arena. The Buckeyes trailed, 3-1, with 16:24 remaining in the third period but Rod Pelley and Matt Beaudoin scored to tie the game and force overtime before Spector tallied to give OSU the win and the two-game sweep of the Bulldogs.

The Buckeyes improve to 2-2-0 on the year and 2-0-0 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. Ferris State drops to 0-4-0 and 0-2-0 in league play. The Buckeyes have won their last three games against Ferris State and in Big Rapids, Mich.

There was no scoring in the first, as Ferris State put 11 shots on net and Ohio State had eight shots. The Buckeyes were unable to score on four power-play chances and went into the second period with the man advantage. The Bulldogs were 0-for-3 on the power play.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead 2:24 into the second period when Jeff Legue scored a power-play goal, assisted by Matt York. Kyle Hood (Fr., Osoyoos, British Columbia) tied the game just over three minutes later (5:51), as his shot from the point got through for his first career goal. Andrew Schembri (So., Mississauga, Ontario) and Tom Fritsche (Fr., Parma, Ohio) assisted on the goal, which came soon after a Buckeye power-play chance expired. OSU was outshot in the period, 11-10.

Ferris scored two goals in a minute, at 2:36 by Derek Nesbitt (on the power play) and 3:36 by Tim Vokey, to take a 3-1 lead. Rod Pelley (Kitimat, British Columbia) made the score 3-2 with a 4-on-3 power-play tally at 7:35, assisted by Hood and Dan Knapp (Jr., Rochester, Mich.). Matt Beaudoin (So., Rock Forest, Quebec) tied the game at three with a goal at 18:18, snapping the puck past FSU goalie Derek MacIntyre as he was falling down. Sean Collins (So., Troy, Mich.) assisted on the goal, as he led Beaudoin into the zone. The Buckeyes outshot the Bulldogs in the period, 15-9. In overtime, Spector put the puck in the net following a scramble in front of the crease. Collins had the assist, as he picked up the Bulldog clearing attempt to get it to Spector in front who scored with 1:43 remaining. The Buckeyes also had a goal disallowed in the overtime period, as the puck was ruled to have not crossed the line. OSU outshot FSU in the period, 4-1.

OSU outshot the Bulldogs in the game, 37-32. OSU goalie Dave Caruso (Jr., Roswell, Ga.) made 29 saves in the win. For the Bulldogs, Derek MacIntyre had 33 stops.

The Buckeyes were 1-for-19 on the power play in the game, while Ferris State was 2-for-8.

Ohio State returns to action at 7:05 p.m. Thursday as it opens its home slate vs. Miami in Value City Arena. The Buckeyes and RedHawks will complete the home-and-home series with a game at 7:35 p.m. Friday at Goggin Ice Arena in Oxford, Ohio.
