COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s cross country team turned in a Top-10 showing at the 2005 NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind., Saturday. The Buckeyes placed 10th overall with a team score of 360 points and were led by an eighth-place time by Brian Olinger in the 8-kilometer race. Stanford won the event with 89, while BYU placed second with 174 points. Nicole Gliem led the women to a fifth-place team score at the 2005 National Invitational in State College, Pa. The Buckeyes posted a team score of 238, falling behind team winner Duke and its 22 team points.

Olinger, a senior from Fresno, Ohio, improved upon his 14th-place finish at the 2004 Pre-Nationals, finishing in a career-best 23:56. Three Buckeyes also finished in the Top 100, with John Ealy (So., Reynoldsburg, Ohio) taking 71st in 24:49, Braden Martinez (So., Stryker, Ohio) and Alex Bailey (So., Columbus, Ohio) crossing the finish line in 88th and 89th place in 24:58.

Gliem, a junior from Columbus, headed the Buckeye effort for the third time in her three races this season, placing eighth on the 6K course in 21:00. Teammate Melanie Price (Jr., Cincinnati) finished 24th in 21:43 and Laura Piper (So., Chesterfield, Mo.) was 53rd with a time of 22:22.

Both the men’s and women’s teams are off next week to prep for the 2005 Big Ten Championships in Minneapolis Oct. 30.
