COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Buckeyes battled the elements all day and managed a team score of 295 (+11), behind Daniel Wetterich’s 2-under 69, to place second, only one shot off the lead and six shots ahead of third-place. Despite the rain from wire to wire, Wetterich turned in a top-notch performance, carding four birdies to take the top spot at the conclusion of day one which was called early in the second round.
Caleb Ramirez had the next best score for Ohio State, navigating the conditions to turn in a three-over 74 to take a share of ninth-place. Will Voetsch came in close behind, at four-over to stay in contention in a tie for 14th-place. Laken Hinton contributed the final score for the team tying for 32nd at six-over. Will Grimmer rounded out the first five to tie for 36th at seven-over.
Ohio State also fielded a “B” team in their home tournament which sits in a tie for ninth at 29-over. Jack Mancinotti came in tops of that group, tying for ninth through the opening round with a three-over 74 to take a share of ninth-place with Kevin Stone finishing the day tied for 14th with a four-over 75. Justin Wick tied for 59th, Grant Engle for 69th, and JonErik Alford for 77th to round out the ten-man crew.
The second round will be wiped clean and the players will restart the round fresh tomorrow with a 9 AM shotgun, weather permitting.
