CHICAGO, Ill. – The No. 8 seed Ohio State men’s basketball team held on for a 79-75 victory over No. 9 seed Indiana Thursday afternoon at the United Center in Chicago. With the win, the Buckeyes, now 19-13 on the year, advance to take on top-seeded Michigan State at 12:30 p.m. ET Friday, while the Hoosiers fall to 17-15.
Keyshawn Woods led Ohio State with 18 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists while Kaleb Wesson tallied a double-double with 17 points and 13 boards in addition to three helpers and three blocks. C.J. Jackson went for 17 points, five rebounds and five assists and Andre Wesson scored 13 for the Buckeyes. Indiana’s Devonte Green led all scorers with 26 points while Juwan Morgan tacked on 12 points and seven rebounds.
Ohio State opened the game with an 11-5 lead after a Kaleb Wesson 3-pointer with 14:14 remaining but the Hoosiers answered with a 10-4 spurt over the next 5:01 to even the score at 15-all at the 9:13 mark. The game remained knotted at 22 with 5:43 left to play but the Buckeyes scored the next seven, capped by a 3-pointer from Andre Wesson, to take a 29-22 lead as Ohio State headed into the break with a 35-28 advantage.
Woods led Ohio State, which held a 17-2 advantage in points off turnovers, with 10 points at the break while Kaleb Wesson added nine points and six boards. Green paced Indiana with 11 points over the first 20 minutes.
The Buckeye lead remained seven at 40-33 after a Green 3-pointer with 16:57 left to play but a 7-1 Ohio State spurt over the next 2:30 pushed the advantage to 47-34 at the 14:27 mark. Ohio State then used a 10-0 run, including a pair of triples from Luther Muhammad, to extend its lead to 63-43 with 7:30 left to play. The Hoosiers were able to climb back in it using the 3-pointer, trimming the Buckeye lead to 77-75 with six seconds remaining on back-to-back threes from Green. However, Jackson connected on a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to seal the victory.
For the game, Ohio State held a 24-6 advantage in points off turnovers and a 38-33 lead on the boards.
