On coach alongside Jeff Hafley:
Together the two of us will put together what’s best for the team. I know one thing, we’re excited about the young men we have the opportunity to coach.
I’m excited about the fact that we are co-coordinators. Last time I was a co-coordinator was when we won a National Championship at Florida.
On head coach Ryan Day:
I was fortunate enough at Florida to know Ryan. He’s a guy that right away you knew: this guy’s good. I’m excited. Every day you’re around him you say this guy is good.
Ohio State and why I came here:
There are 105 good reasons to talk about. It was part coming home and being part of something as great as this place. I’m very humbled to be here.
On the QB corps:
It’s a process. It takes time and it takes investment on both ends. For me as a quarterbacks coach, I have to learn how they learn the best. Everybody is different. It’s a great opportunity during the off-season to take the time to learn about each individual.
On his decision to come to Ohio State:
I mean, a lot of reasons. I’ve known Coach Day and know the program and tradition, but my mom and dad are 20 minutes away. I’ve got a three-year-old, a one-year-old. My wife went here. A lot of who I am is from obviously the 614 and Columbus and my father playing here. I think those things definitely were major contributors to coming, that unique blend of everything.
On Coach Day:
Ryan is just very poised, and he’s very attuned to the situation. Even like the process of me working for him at Boston College, I think he read it right. And fortunately he did. I owe him a lot in that department.
Every young coach as you start off — You need people to kind of see what you can do, no different than playing a sport.
On Ohio State:
It’s a special place. It’s the winningest program in history. So much tradition and the fact that (Ohio State) competes to win a championship every year.
On Special Teams:
Continue to develop and cultivate the importance of special teams. Keep in mind we’re playing our best players. The thing I hope to shed more light on is that it’s not just special teams, it’s general fundamentals of playing the game of football.
