MATCH RESULTS // NCAA RIFLE PAGE
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State University Rifle Team fired a 4702 (Nebraska 4709, Akron 4698) to close out the 2022-23 season at the NCAA qualifier on Saturday. The team score of 4702 was the fourth highest in program history and the highest score the team has ever fired at the NCAA Qualifier. The combined NCAA Qualification Score (three score average + NCAA Qualifier) of 9405.33 was also the highest in the history of the program.
In smallbore the team fired a score of 2333 led by Viktor Kiss and Derek Keiser who fired scores of 587 and 584. Paige Hollowell (581), Lillian Warren (580), and Nathan Wehrlen (573) rounded out a solid smallbore performance for the team. Tyler Hanson (579) led the way for Ohio State’s individuals while John Hamilton (573), Joel Potts (568), Philip Becker (563), Frank Steyn (562), and Eva Horgan (555) rounded out individual scoring.
In air rifle the Buckeyes fired a season high score of 2369 and were again led by Derek Keiser and Viktor Kiss who fired scores of 594 and 593. Lillian Warren equaled her career best with a 592 while Paige Hollowell (590), and John Hamilton (579) rounded out team scoring. Tyler Hanson (586) and Frank Steyn (585) led the way for Ohio State’s individuals along with Eva Horgan who fired a career best 584. Nathan Wehrlen (580), Philip Becker (578), and Natalie Katsuyama (570) rounded out individual scoring.
Saturday also marked the final matches for the Rifle Team’s two seniors Joel Potts and Natalie Katsuyama and they were honored by the team following the match.
Coach Tanoue: “The team had a really solid performance at the qualifier to conclude what has been a record breaking season for our team. We’ve broken many team and individual program records this season and Saturday was a performance that represented well the way that we have been performing all season. The qualifier is also a very bittersweet day as it marks that last collegiate matches for our two seniors Joel and Natalie who have been through so much as members of our team and I cannot thank them enough for their contributions to our team and to Ohio State.”
The team and individual selections for the 2023 NCAA Rifle Championships (hosted by the University of Akron) will be announced on the NCAA Rifle Selection Show on Monday, February 20.
