Ohio State Finishes Fifth in CGA’s National Academic Team Champions Ranking

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s gymnastics team was declared fifth in the College Gymnastics Association’s (CGA) 2019 National Academic Team Champions ranking, the organization announced Monday. The Buckeyes ended the year with a cumulative 3.177 team grade-point average and finished behind Stanford (3.435), William and Mary (3.412), Minnesota (3.285) and Oklahoma (3.247).

The CGA also honored 81 individual gymnasts as 2019 first team All-America Scholar-Athletes for attaining a 3.50 GPA or higher and 47 second team All-America Scholar-Athletes for attaining a GPA average between 3.2 and 3.499. Of those honored, 10 Buckeyes made the list and Joey Bonanno was among 16 gymnasts who were designated first team Academic All-American Scholar-Athletes by the CGA for all four years of their eligibility.

  • Curtis Chang: 4.0 GPA
  • Joey Wilmot: 4.0 GPA
  • Andrew Brower: 3.999-3.90 GPA
  • Joey Bonanno: 3.899-3.80 GPA
  • Sean Neighbarger: 3.899-3.80 GPA
  • Dexter Roettker: 3.899-3.80 GPA
  • Jesse Tyndall: 3.799-3.70 GPA
  • Robert Costea: 3.599-3.50 GPA

Second Team All-American Scholar-Athletes

  • Michael Chan: 3.499-3.40 GPA
  • Jacob Gricar: 3.499-3.40 GPA
