Ohio State Fencing Opens 2018-2019 Season with OSU Open and Duals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Buckeyes will host their season opener this upcoming weekend at French Field House. The OSU Open, featuring individual competition, will take place on Saturday, September 29, with the women’s events starting at 9:00 a.m. and men’s events at 12:30 p.m. OSU Duals will be held on Sunday starting at 8:00 a.m. and will be team competition.

Teams in attendance this weekend include both club and varsity squads from Bowling Green, Case Western Reserve, Cleveland State, Iowa, Illinois, Xavier, Michigan, Oberlin, Purdue, Denison, Michigan State, and Indiana.

 

A YEAR AGO

Last season, the team finished with an impressive number of wins in both events. Five fencers from Ohio State took first place and 21 fencers finished top-10 in their weapon categories, consisting of sabre, foil, and épée. For the Duals, the Ohio State fencing team finished with 8-0 victory over the other competing teams. The men finished 193-23 and the women finished 207-9.

The Buckeyes have won a total of fourteen consecutive times in this event. They are looking to secure their fifteenth team win this upcoming weekend.
