COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s hockey team was downed by eighth-ranked Minnesota Duluth, 4-1, at the OSU Ice Rink on Saturday. The game concluded the two-game series between the Buckeyes (8-8-2, 5-7-2-1 WCHA) and the Bulldogs (12-5-3, 7-5-2-2 WCHA). The Scarlet and Gray will return to action for another two-game series vs. Bemidji State, beginning Dec. 19 in Bemidji, Minn.
Shots were 13-10, Minnesota Duluth after the scoreless first period. Freshman goalie Kassidy Sauve was credited with 13 stops. Ohio State was unable to convert on two man-up situations.
Action picked up in the second period with Buckeye freshman Lauren Spring claiming her second goal of the season on a power play at 2:32. The Bulldogs responded with three goals of their own – two even strength and one short handed. Ohio State’s penalty kill unit went 2-for-2, while Sauve tallied four saves for the period. Minnesota Duluth held a 7-6 advantage in shots.
In the third period, the Bulldogs claimed an empty net goal to bring the final score to 4-1. Both teams totaled six penalties in the stanza. Sauve stopped eight shots, while redshirt junior goalie Stacy Danczak saw action for two minutes at the end of the period. Shots were 9-5, with the advantage going to Minnesota Duluth.
For the game, the Buckeyes were 1-for-7 on the power play and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill. The Bulldogs ultimately held a 29-21 advantage in shots and Sauve totaled 25 saves in 57:45 of play.
