DULUTH, Minn. – The Ohio State women’s ice hockey team falls to No. 5 Minnesota-Duluth, 5-1, Saturday night at the DECC in Duluth, Minn. The Buckeyes (13-8-2 overall, 9-7-1 WCHA) picked up two WCHA conference points as they split the weekend with the Bulldogs (12-9-2, 8-6-1 WCHA). OSU defeated UMD, 4-3, in game one Friday night.

Minnesota-Duluth made its mark early in the game Saturday night as the Bulldogs tallied five goals in the first period. The first goal came 32 seconds into the game as UMD’s Jenny Potter shot the puck past OSU’s goalie Melissa Glaser (Jr., Rockford, Ill.) in the left corner of the net. Senior Jenny Potter scored the Bulldogs second goal at 2:55. UMD’s Noemie Marin and Jessica Koizumi followed for two more Bulldog goals within 40 seconds of each other. Ouellette posted Minnesota-Duluth’s fifth goal at 17:32. At the end of the first stanza, the Bulldogs led the Buckeyes 18-7 in shots.

Ohio State changed goaltenders at the start of the second period, as freshman Erika Vanderveer (Fr., Bradford, Ontario) played the remainder of the game in net for the Buckeyes. OSU picked up the intensity, but still could not get the puck past UMD’s goalie Riitta Schaublin. The period ended scoreless as Minnesota-Duluth tallied 10 shots to Ohio State’s seven.

OSU’s sophomore Jana Harrigan (So., Burlington, Ontario) got the Buckeyes on the scoreboard 22 seconds into the third period. Senior captain Erin O’Grady (Jr., London, Ontario) and junior captain Meaghan Mulvaney (Jr., Sylvania, Ohio) assisted on the goal. Harrigan, who leads the team in goals, recorded her ninth goal of the season. OSU goalie Glaser recorded 13 saves and allowed five goals and Vanderveer posted 20 saves. UMD goalie Schaublin stopped 19-of-20 Buckeye chances.

Ohio State’s penalty-killing unit held UMD scoreless goal on all four power-play chances. OSU was 1-for-4 on the power play. Minnesota-Duluth outshot Ohio State 38-20 in the game.

Ohio State finishes out its four-weekend road stretch against No. 9 Minnesota State at 7:05 p.m. Feb. 13-14 in Mankato, Minn.
