COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s soccer team fell to No. 23 Rutgers, 2-0, on Senior Night Friday at Bert L. & Iris S. Wolstein Field at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. With the loss, the Buckeyes conclude the season with a 6-10-3 record, 3-7-3 in Big Ten play.

Ohio State had a chance just over a minute in when Nikki Walts played a free kick into the box and Michela Paradiso got on the end of it but her header from eight yards sailed over the crossbar.

took the lead in the 20th minute when Amanda DeVolk played a cross to Stefanie Scholz who finished past a diving Megan Geldernick from 10 yards for the 1-0 advantage.

The Scarlet Knights took the 1-0 lead into the half with both teams tallying four shots over the first 45 minutes.

Rutgers then extended the lead in the 50th minute when Madison Tiernan tapped in a rebound off a Jennifer Andresen shot to make it a 2-0 game.

Less than two minutes later, the Buckeyes almost cut the lead in half but Sammy Edwards’ header from six yards caromed off the crossbar and was cleared away.

In the 56th minute, Kayla Varner had a chance on a shot from the top of the box but it narrowly missed wide left.

The Buckeyes continued to push numbers forward the rest of the way but were unable to crack the Rutgers defense as the Scarlet Knights came away with the win.
