COLUMBUS, Ohio –The Ohio State men’s volleyball team fell in a back-and-forth battle to Lindenwood on Friday night, 3-1. Despite a third set victory, the Buckeyes were unable to complete the comeback and fall to 12-2 in the overall series with the Lions. Ohio State returns to St. John Arena to play the Quincy Hawks on Saturday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m.
The score was tied 30 times during the four-set effort from the Buckeyes. Jake Hanes led the team with 17 kills and Blake Leeson recorded a .737 hitting percentage with 15 kills on 19 swings.
SET1: Ohio State came out swinging in the opening points of the set, going up 3-0 on Lindenwood. The Lions tied it up at 10 and the teams then traded points with the score tying eight more times. With the score notched at 15, the Lions went on a 4-0 run and secured the lead for the remainder of the set. Lindenwood finished with a .579 hitting percentage to win first set, 25-21.
SET 2: The Buckeyes led for the majority of the set, building their lead to as much as five points with the score 22-17 in favor of Ohio State. The Lions tied the game at 23 and were able to escape the Buckeyes with a 30-28 victory. Leeson led the Buckeyes with a .714 hitting percentage with five kills on seven swings.
SET 3: Ohio State and Lindenwood went back-and-forth for the first 12 points of the set. A kill from Jake Hanes and an ace from Sanil Thomas put the Buckeyes up two on the Lions and the Buckeyes took off with the lead. The team extended its lead to eight with the score at 20-12 and took the third set, 25-17. The Buckeyes posted a .818 hitting percentage with 18 kills in the third set. Hanes finished with six kills on six swings.
SET 4: The Buckeyes edged the Lions in the opening plays of the set. Lindenwood tied the set at nine and the lead alternated six more times before the Lions came away with a 25-20 victory to win the match, 3-1.
