COLUMBUS, Ohio – After 471 days without competition, the Ohio State men’ soccer team (0-1-0, 0-1-0 B1G) fell 3-0 in its 2021 season opener to Indiana (2-0-0, 2-0-0 B1G) Tuesday at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.
The game was originally scheduled to be played in Columbus but inclement weather in Columbus necessitated the move to an alternative site.
The Hoosiers scored in the 48th minute to take the lead. IU added to the advantage on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute and rounded out the scoring with its final goal (83’).
The game was scoreless after the first 45 minutes with Indiana leading 4-3 on shots. Both squads managed two shots on goal.
Noah Lawrence, making his first start in goal for the Buckeyes after transferring from the University of Cincinnati following the 2019 campaign, stopped both IU attempts in the early going.
Thomas Gilej, a freshman defender from Wuppertal, Germany, made his first career start and was credited with all three Ohio State shots at the net in the game.
The Buckeyes travel to Maryland to take on the Terrapins Saturday.
