WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Ohio State women’s soccer team fell to Purdue, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Boilermaker Soccer Complex. With the loss, the Buckeyes fall to 4-4-0, 1-1-0 in the Big Ten, while the Boilermakers improve to 5-2-1, 1-1-0 in conference play.

After Ohio State tallied a few early opportunities that were thwarted by Purdue goalkeeper Erika Yohn, the Boilermakers took the lead in the 33rd minute when Maddy Williams gathered an Alex Hairston cross, dribbled around a Buckeye defender and finished toward the left post for a 1-0 advantage.

However, after a Mollie Kuramoto shot was saved off the line by a Buckeye defender, Lindsay Agnew answered with a goal in the 41st minute on a shot from 25 yards out to knot the game at 1-1 heading into the half.

After the first 45 minutes, Purdue held a 9-6 lead in shots with both teams putting three on goal.

After a quiet start to the second half, Purdue regained the lead in the 81st minute. A throw-in by Christa Szalach caromed around in the box and was finished by Williams to give the Boilermakers the 2-1 lead.

Makaela Nellams then put it away in the 89th minute with a far-post finish from 10 yards to cap the scoring.

For the game, Purdue held a 15-13 lead in shots, including 6-4 on goal.

Ohio State travels to Penn State for a 6 p.m. match Friday.
