UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Ohio State women’s soccer team fell to No. 8 Penn State, 5-1, Friday night at Jeffrey Field. With the loss, the Buckeyes fall to 4-4-0, 1-1-0 in the Big Ten, while the Nittany Lions improve to 5-2-1, 1-1-0 in conference play.
Frannie Crouse gave the Nittany Lions the lead off a cross two minutes in and Salina Williford doubled the Penn State advantage in the 21st minute.
The Nittany Lions took the 2-0 lead into the half after holding a 7-1 lead in shots.
Sydney Dudley cut the Buckeye deficit to 2-1 less than two minutes into the half on a header off a cross but Penn State’s Whitney Church responded less than three minutes later to make it a 3-1 game.
Crouse then added to the Penn State lead in the 65th minute on a breakaway to push the Nittany Lion lead to 4-1.
Raquel Rodriguez capped the scoring in the 78th minute off a cross from Haleigh Echard to make it a 5-1 contest.
For the game, Penn State held a 14-4 advantage in shots, 8-2 on goal.
Ohio State opens its Big Ten home slate against Illinois at 7 p.m. Friday and Northwestern at 2 p.m. Sunday.
