COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s soccer team (1-0-1, 1-0-1 BIG) earned its first win of the season with a 3-1 triumph over Wisconsin (1-1-0, 1-1-0 B1G) Thursday at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center Indoor Field. Sophomore Emma Sears scored all three goals for the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes scored first when Sears tallied her second of the season in the 11th minute. Sears, a forward from Dublin, Ohio, added another, her third on the year, in the 36th minute to give the Buckeyes the 2-0 advantage. She then answered a late Wisconsin goal (88’) with her third of the game in the 89th minute.

Sears scored her first career goal the last time out in the 1-all double overtime season-opener vs. Michigan and now has four on the season.

The first score against the Badgers was set up by sophomore midfielder Brittany Duncan, her first of the season. The assist was the first of her career (12 games). The second goal was assisted by freshman Peyton McNamara, a midfielder from Norwalk, Conn. She played in her second game as a Buckeye Thursday.

Sears’ third also was assisted by Duncan.

Senior Bailey Kolinsky (Derry, N.H.) was stellar in goal for the Buckeyes. She stopped six of seven Badger attempts on goal in the win.

Ohio State has a home game vs. Nebraska scheduled for noon Sunday before taking to the road for the first time this season at Maryland March 4. The game time for the game vs. the Terps has not been determined.

  • The last Buckeye to score three times in a game was Emaly Vatne vs. Morehead State (W, 8-0) Aug. 30, 2018.
