COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State earned the 2016-17 AVCA Team Academic Award, joined by Illinois and Northwestern as the Big Ten’s representation for this distinction honoring excellence in the classroom. The Buckeyes also excelled on the court as one of just four schools nationally to reach the NCAA Regional Semifinals (‘Sweet 16’) while posting the minimum 3.30 or better cumulative team grade-point average required to receive the AVCA Team Academic Award.
Academic accomplishments have come in droves for the ’16-17 Buckeyes. Seven players picked up Academic All-Big Ten recognition back in December before a total of 11 were tabbed OSU Scholar-Athletes at the annual OSU Scholar-Athlete Banquet. Graduated senior Kylie Randall capped it off as a B1G Distinguished Scholar by virtue of her 3.7 or better GPA last academic year.
The Ohio State men’s volleyball program received the AVCA Team Academic Award as well, marking Ohio State as one of only five Division-I institutions in the country with both the women’s and men’s volleyball teams securing the honor.
