COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 14 Ohio State University men’s volleyball team (8-4, 0-1 MIVA) stumbled in a 25-22, 25-17 25-17 defeat to No. 6 Lewis University (8-4, 1-1 MIVA). The Flyers looked every bit the part as the conference head coaches’ pick to win the MIVA title, attacking .416 for the match.
Samuel Clark finished as Ohio State’s top point producer, blasting eight kills and getting in on two block assists. The freshman middle swung .385 (8-3-13).
Andrew Hillman started the third set and took over the opposite hitter role. He ripped a half dozen kills from the right side to provide a spark. Lewis would ultimately overpower the Buckeyes and close it out.
The Flyer tandem of Ryan Coenen and Tyler Mitchem combined for 28 kills on 43 attempts with just three errors. Mitchem was dominated defensively as well, posting a match-high six block assists.
Ohio State returns to the court in two days, playing host to another MIVA foe in McKendree University at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday (Feb. 13).
