Buckeyes open at home vs. Wisconsin at 2 p.m. Saturday-Sunday
ORLANDO, Fla. – After an 18-run outing vs. Cornell, the No. 22 Ohio State softball team (16-10) fell, 3-0, to Central Florida (18-11) Wednesday afternoon in its second game of the day at the UCF Softball Stadium in Orlando, Fla.
The Knights went ahead early, scoring two unearned runs in the first inning. With the leadoff and No. 2 batter getting on base by errors, UCF’s Hillary Barrow hit an RBI single and advanced to second as the Buckeye leftfielder made a throw to home in attempt to get out the runner. On a long pop-up to left, another runner came across home as the Knights scored two runs off of one hit with two errors and one left on base.
In the next four innings, the Buckeye defense was able to strand five UCF runners, maintaining a 2-0 score through the bottom of the fifth. It was not until the bottom of the seventh that Central Florida would tack on another run.
Ohio State had its best opportunity to score in the top of the fourth with sophomore Vanessa Spears reaching first on catcher’s interference and sophomore Alicia Herron recording the team’s only hit of the game. Still, with two outs already in the books, Ohio State would leave the runners on base.
The Buckeyes next open their home slate, hosting Wisconsin in a Big Ten series at 2 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.
