MADISON, Wis. – The Ohio State women’s soccer team fell to No. 13 Wisconsin, 2-0, Friday night at the McClimon Soccer Complex. With the loss, the Buckeyes fall to 5-7-0, 2-4-0 in the Big Ten, while the Badgers improve to 11-1-0, 5-1-0 in conference play.

In a back-and-forth first half, Nichelle Prince had the Buckeyes’ best opportunity, firing a shot from 20 yards that sailed into the waiting arms of Wisconsin goalkeeper Genevieve Richard in the 17th minute.

After that chance, things stayed quiet until less than two minutes remaining in the half, when Rose Lavelle lofted a free kick from 25 yards off the right post and past Ohio State goalkeeper Megan Geldernick as the Badgers took a 1-0 lead into the break.

Over the first 45 minutes, Wisconsin held an 8-3 lead in shots, 3-1 on goal. The Badgers also posted a 4-1 lead in corner kicks.

The Badgers had the first good opportunity of the second half in the 62nd minute when Becca Harrison gathered just outside the top of the box, created space with a dribble and took a shot from 18 yards that narrowly missed wide right.

Three minutes later, Molly Laufenberg found Cara Walls at the top of the box and Walls placed a right-footed strike from 18 yards just under the crossbar to extend the Wisconsin lead to 2-0 with 25 minutes remaining.

Ohio State almost cut the lead in half in the 78th minute but Alexis Degler’s left-footed shot from the top of the box off a great feed from Nichelle Prince narrowly missed wide right.

The Buckeyes couldn’t muster anything the rest of the way as the Badgers came away with the win.

For the game, Wisconsin held a 15-6 lead in shots, including 6-1 on goal.

Ohio State travels to Minnesota for a match at 2 p.m. ET Sunday.
