IOWA CITY, Iowa – Ohio State opened its final three-game weekend series of the season against Iowa with a 1-0 loss Friday night at Bob Pearl Field. The Buckeyes fall to 32-15 on year and 15-6 in the Big Ten while the Hawkeyes improve to 19-29 overall and 5-16 in conference play.
THE SHORT STORY
Ohio State held off Iowa until late in the game, only allowing two hits through the first five innings. The Hawkeyes broke the stalemate in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run by Miranda Schulte.
The Buckeyes had the bases loaded twice but a catch in foul territory and a controversial call on a double play ended their chances.
Lilli Piper and Emily Clark had both of Ohio State’s hits in the top of the sixth. Piper is on a seven-game hitting streak while Clark has safely gotten on base in the last 18 outings.
IN THE CIRCLE
Morgan Ray (16-7) was charged with the loss after six innings of work. She let in three hits and one run while striking out six. It is her first loss in the circle since Apr. 6.
The Buckeyes and Hawkeyes resume play on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT/2 p.m. ET.
