CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Ohio State women’s soccer team fell to Illinois, 1-0, Friday evening at Illinois Soccer Stadium. The loss snaps the Buckeyes’ six-game win streak and drops Ohio State to 6-3-0, 1-1-0 in Big Ten play, while Illinois improves to 5-3-1, 2-0-0 in conference play.

After the game was delayed over an hour because of lightning, the teams played to a scoreless first half. Illinois held a 12-8 advantage in shots, with the Buckeyes putting two on goal to one for the Fighting Illini, over the first 45 minutes of play. Tiffany Cameron and Lauren Granberg led the Buckeyes with three shots apiece in the first half.

Illinois almost got on the board early in the second half when Niki Read drilled a shot from 20 yards out but Ohio State goalkeeper Jillian McVicker was able to make the save and keep the game scoreless.

Freshman Taylore Peterson then gave the Illini a lead they would not relinquish, tallying her second goal of the season in the 68th minute off assists from Kassidy Brown and Nicole Breece.

For the game, Illinois held a 19-13 advantage in shots, including 5-4 on frame. Granberg tallied five shots for the Buckeyes while Cameron added four.

Ohio State travels to Evanston, Ill., to take on Northwestern at 1 p.m. ET Sunday at Lakeside Field.
