ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Ohio State women’s soccer team came back to tie No. 24 Michigan, 2-2, Sunday afternoon in Ann Arbor. The Buckeyes sit at 5-8-3 overall, 2-5-3 in conference play, while the Wolverines improve to 11-4-1, 7-2-1 in the Big Ten.
Neither team was able to get much going through the first 45 minutes. Both teams had opportunities from long range but neither was able to convert as the match headed into the half scoreless.
Michigan held an 8-4 lead in shots, 3-1 on goal, over the first 45 minutes.
The Buckeyes had a chance in the 63rd but Michigan goalkeeper Megan Hinz was able to make the diving save on Nichelle Prince’s shot from the right wing.
Nicky Waldeck then gave the Wolverines the lead in the 70th minute on a header off a corner from Taylor Timko for the 1-0 advantage.
Ohio State answered right back four minutes later on a header by Ellyn Gruber off a cross from Kayla Varner to knot the score at 1-1.
Varner then had a header with two minutes remaining but Hinz came up with the save to keep it a 1-1 match heading to overtime.
Danielle Hogarth responded to give the Wolverines the lead with 58 seconds left but Sammy Edwards answered right back on a header from six yards off an assist from Nicole Miyashiro to send the match to overtime at 2-2.
Neither team got anything going in overtime as the teams came away with a draw.
Ohio State hosts Iowa at 7 p.m. Friday and Nebraska at 1 p.m. Oct. 26.
