COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team claimed a 3-0 shutout vs. Miami in a preseason scrimmage Thursday afternoon at Buckeye Varsity Field. The Buckeyes claimed a goal in the first half before scoring two goals in the final 35 minutes of competition.

Sophomore back Emma Royce scored the first goal on a corner at 11:58 with the assist from senior midfielder Maria Swartz. In the first half, the Buckeyes outshot the RedHawks, 6-3. In the second half of competition, Ohio State added to its lead when Swartz collected a goal following a rebound off a corner during the 57th minute. The Buckeyes collected their final goal after sophomore Annie VonderBrink scored in front of the cage following a nice set-up pass by freshman midfielder Paige Hamilton. Overall, Ohio State had a 17-4 advantage in shots.

Senior goalkeeper Emma Voelker started between the posts for the Buckeyes, collecting three saves, while redshirt sophomore Sydney Stype notched one save in the final 35 minutes of play.

A total of 18 players saw action in the contest, including four newcomers. Ohio State opens the 2013 campaign on the road Aug. 31 at Temple at the Conference Cup in Philadelphia, Pa.
