COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s ice hockey team downed WCHA foe Bemidji State, 5-1, Friday afternoon at John S. Glas Fieldhouse in Bemidji, Minn. Leading the Buckeyes with three points was senior Jeni Creary (2-1-3). With the win, Ohio State improves to 13-12-2 overall and 10-12-1 in the WCHA. Bemidji State falls to 6-19-2 overall and 2-18-2 in the WCHA.

Ohio State and Bemidji State complete the series at 3:05 p.m. EST Saturday at John S. Glas Fieldhouse.

Bemidij State scored the first goal of the game when Jenny Schnickel scored on a shot from the blueline at 17:45. The Beavers outshot the Buckeyes 16 to eight in the first period.

Ohio State came out strong taking a 3-1 lead in the second period. Junior forward Katie Sershen (Woodbury, Minn.) tied the game at 1-all when she scored her first collegiate goal on a play from Jaclyn Haines (Rossland, British Columbia) and Erin Keys (St. Paul, Minn.) at the three minute mark. The Buckeyes followed with a power-play goal a minute later when senior captain Meaghan Mulvaney (Sylvania, Ohio) tipped in a shot from the Jeni Creary (Sr., Shell Lake, Saskatchewan) at 4:07. Sophomore Amber Bowman (Innisfil, Ontario) picked up her 12th assist of the season on the goal. OSU’s third goal came from senior forward Creary scored a top shelf goal on the power play at 18:02. Sophomore Tessa Bonhomme (Sudbury, Ontario) and Bowman recorded helpers on the goal. The Buckeyes posted 13 shots to the Beavers eight in the second stanza.

Ohio State secured its victory with two additional goals in the third period. Bemidji State called a timeout with 3:35 remaining and pulled its goalie for the extra-man advantage. The Buckeyes capitalized on the opportunity when junior Crystal Sayther (Burnsville, Minn.) scored an empty-net goal assisted by Mulvaney at 16:37. OSU followed 23 seconds later with its fifth goal. Creary scored her second goal of the game and 20th of the season on a pass from behind the net from Jana Harrigan (Burlington, Ontario) at 17:01.

Ohio State senior goalie Melissa Glaser (Rockford, Ill.) posted 39 saves in the full 60 minutes of action. Bemidji State’s goalie Emily Brookshaw recorded 23 saves in 59:48 of action.

Bemidji State outshot the Buckeyes 40-28. Ohio State held Bemidji State scoreless on all three the power plays, while the Buckeyes converted on 2-of-3 power-play chances.


With her one assist, Jana Harrigan extended her point streak to 11 games this season. During her stretch Harrigan has posted four goals and 13 assists for 17 points. The assist marked Harrigan’s 100th career point, claiming second in the OSU record books with 100 career points, one point ahead of former Buckeye Emma Laaksonen (2001-04).

Junior forward Katie Sershen scored her first collegiate goal and her sixth career point.

Jeni Creary continues to lead the Buckeyes with 20 goals this season as she improves her career mark to 77 goals.

All three members of Buckeye junior class recorded points in game one. Katie Sershen and Crystal Sayther both scored goals, while Jana Harrigan tallied an assist.
