COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision (25-15, 23-25, 25-12, 25-9) to No. 9 Nebraska Wednesday night at St. John Arena. The loss puts the Buckeyes at 12-11 overall and 3-8 in the Big Ten while the Cornhuskers stand at 16-5 overall and 7-4 in conference play.
Vanja Bukilić notched her 18th match in double figures behind 11 kills. Bia Franklin got in on the action adding 10 kills, followed by Lauren Witte with seven. Becca Mauer chipped in 29 assists, six digs and three blocks. Camryn Moeller earned career highs in kills (4) and service aces (3). Defensively, Audra Appold had a match-best 14 digs while Bukilić and Adria Powell tallied two rejections each.
SET 1: Back-to-back aces by Moeller cut the deficit to 12-9. Ohio State tried to find its groove but Nebraska ran away, 25-15.
SET 2: The Huskers needed a break early as the Buckeyes took a 9-6 lead. Out of the break, Nebraska clawed its way back to tie the score at 19-all. The set remained locked up until a Witte kill and visitor error sealed a 25-23 Ohio State win.
SET 3: The Buckeyes called for time trailing 7-3 to open the set. Nebraska continued to extend its advantage on the way to a 25-12 victory.
SET 4: Ohio State headed to its bench down 15-6. The Buckeyes made an effort to stay in the rally but it wasn’t enough as the Huskers took the set, 25-9.
The Buckeyes are taking a road trip to face Northwestern at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 28.
