COLUMBUS, Ohio – Major League Lacrosse will hold its annual collegiate draft on Wednesday, and if history is any indication, Buckeye fans can expect to hear some familiar names called.
In each of the last three years, Ohio State has had multiple players selected, culminating last year when a program-record six Buckeyes were taken – including first-rounder Jake Withers (ninth overall to the Atlanta Blaze). Ohio State has produced 10 MLL draft picks since 2015, the second highest total of any team in the Big Ten.
Other first round picks over the last 10 years include Jesse King (sixth overall in 2015 to Rochester) and Kevin Buchanan (fifth overall in 2008 to Los Angeles). Second round selections in that same time span have been Eric Fannell (2017), Joe Meurer (2014) and Logan Schuss (2013). In all, a total of 16 former Buckeyes have been drafted by MLL franchises since the league began in 2001.
This year’s MLL Draft will be held at the US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md. and coverage on Lax Sports Network will begin at 5:30 p.m. The draft kicks off an hour later at 6:30 p.m.
