COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team continued play at the HEB/Under Armour Fall Invite Saturday in Waco, Texas. The Buckeyes remain undefeated in doubles competition at the event and captured five of their eight singles matches on the afternoon.
Sunday marks the final day of competition at the tournament. Doubles are slated to begin at 10 a.m. ET, followed by singles at 11:15 a.m. ET.
Ferny Angeles Paz and Grainne O’Neill earned their second tiebreaker doubles victory of the tournament, defeating Southern Methodist’s Holly Verner and Hristina Dishkova, 8-7 (4). The freshman duo of Anna Sanford and Olivia Sneed posted an 8-3 victory vs. South Alabama’s Monica Mitta and Laura Matuskova.
The Buckeyes each played two singles matches on the afternoon. After dropping the first set, Sanford rallied to win in three sets vs. Baylor’s Eliza Long, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Angeles Paz topped Dishkova, 7-6 (7), 6-1, while Sneed also tallied a win in straight sets vs. Southern Methodist’s Maxine Schmidt, 6-2, 6-2. Despite winning the first set, O’Neill fell to Baylor’s Kiah Generette, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0.
In the second round of singles action, Angeles Paz also fell to Baylor’s Generette, 7-6 (1), while lost to TCU’s Palini Dubavets in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Sneed and Sanford continued their singles streak, defeating their opponents in three sets. Sneed notched a 6-2, 2-6, 6-0, victory vs. Baylor’s Long and Sanford battled to a 6-1, 7-6, 6-4, win vs. TCU’s Alexia Pereira.
