COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team concluded competition at the HEB/Under Armour Fall Invite Sunday afternoon in Waco, Texas. During the course of the weekend, the Buckeyes notched a 5-1 record in doubles play and a 9-7 ledger against singles opponents in the round-robin tournament.
Playing in their debut collegiate tournament, freshmen Olivia Sneed and Anna Sanford each posted a 4-0 record in singles competition. Playing together in flight 2 doubles, the freshman duo tallied a 2-1 mark on the weekend. Upperclassmen Ferny Angeles Paz and Grainne O’Neill teamed up to go undefeated in doubles with wins vs. Baylor, SMU and South Alabama.
In Sunday’s doubles competition, Angeles Paz and O’Neill posted an 8-5 victory vs. host Baylor’s Kiah Generette and Eliza Long, 8-5, to secure their undefeated run at the tournament. Sanford and Sneed fell to ULM’s Sophie Rufyikiri and Petra Horakova, 8-5.
The freshmen bounced back in singles play with Sanford and Sneed each defeating their opponents in straight sets. Sanford topped Korakova with a tiebreaker victory in the second set, 6-1, 7-6 (4) and Sneed bested TCU’s Alexandra Zanovka, 6-2, 6-0. Angeles Paz dropped a 7-5, 7-5, decision to TCU’s Sofia Kadzhaya, while O’Neill tabbed a 6-3, 6-0 loss to Rufyikiri.
Up next, the Buckeyes will travel to Champaign, Illinois, for the ITA Midwest Regional October 16.
