BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 9 seed Ohio State men’s soccer team fell, 3-1, against No. 8 seed Northwestern in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament Saturday afternoon at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
The Buckeyes struck the scoreboard first in the 17th minute when Osman Fofanah sent in a ball from the right side into the box and found the foot of Jake Scheper, who volleyed a lob shot into the back of the net for his second goal of the season. However, Northwestern answered just four minutes later when Sean Lynch finished off a pass from one yard out at 20:32 to make it 1-1. The Buckeyes controlled the pace of play in the first 45 minutes and held a 7-4 lead in shots, while Northwestern had a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks. Michael Prosuk was active on the offensive end with three shots, including two on goal in the opening period.
The Wildcats scored twice in the second half to advance to the B1G tournament quarterfinals. Camden Buescher netted his seventh goal of the season in the 78th on a scramble in front of the net, finishing his score at the left post. Matt Moderwell sealed the victory with a breakaway goal in the 88th minute. Ohio State held a 12-11 lead in shots, while Northwestern collected a 12-1 advantage in corners. Ohio State goalkeeper Parker Siegfried finished with three saves. The Buckeyes conclude the 2018 campaign with a 1-15-2 record.
