LEBANON, Ill. – The No. 9 Ohio State University men’s volleyball team (14-3, 6-2 MIVA) registered its second win in as many nights at McKendree University (6-10, 3-5 MIVA). The Buckeyes surrendered the very first point of the night, but then never trailed again for the remainder of the evening in a three-set victory (25-20, 25-19, 25-19).
Maxime Hervoir enjoyed his stay in Lebanon, averaging 4.86 kills per set while attacking .528 for the weekend. He also dug 2.14 balls/set in a solid defensive effort. On Saturday, the senior outside hitter buried 14 kills at a .500 clip (14-3-22) and tallied five digs. He was flanked offensively by Blake Leeson in the middle, delivering eight kills on 10 swings. Leeson was also a part of five blocks (1s, 4a) and added a service ace for a dozen points.
Sanil Thomas elevated his season assists averaged above 11 per set after a 38-assist performance in the weekend’s second match. Aaron Samarin posted solid numbers, too, picking up a match-high nine digs.
SET 1: As mentioned above, the Bearcats went ahead 1-0 in the opening set. A landslide of seven straight Buckeye points followed to push OSU ahead for the rest of the evening. Ohio State would go on to lead by as many as eight points before closing its out 25-20.
SET 3: As the offense sputtered a bit in the third, Ohio State’s defense shined bright. The Buckeyes rejected McKendree four times and limited them to an .061 team hitting efficiency. Another 7-0 run midway through the frame ultimately closed the door in an eventual 25-19 closer for the Scarlet & Gray.
Ohio State will now take a week off from formal competition before returning to action march 16-17 at Penn State and Saint Francis.
