COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 16-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team was clipped by No. 6 Texas, 4-3, Friday in the Varsity Tennis Center. The Buckeyes fall to 2-1 on the year, with the Longhorns now 3-0.
The Buckeyes will wrap up the weekend with a match vs. Notre Dame at noon Sunday in the VTC. Admission is free.
Against the Longhorns, the Buckeyes dropped the doubles point after a lengthy tiebreaker on court three. Luna Dormet, Isabelle Boulais and Kolie Allen put the Buckeyes on the board in singles with victories on their respective courts, with Dormet and Allen both rallying for three set wins. The team match came down to court one and the Longhorn won in three sets for the team victory.
The Buckeye tandem of junior Danielle Wolf and freshman Kolie Allen came off the court first after a tough match that went to the Turati sisters of Texas, 6-0. Shortly after, the duo of sophomore Shiori Fukuda and freshman Isabelle Boulais clinched a win on court one, 6-3, over Bojana Markovic and Fernanda Labrana, putting Ohio State on the board.
The doubles point was decided on court three between Buckeye sophomores Mary Beth Hurley and Luna Dormet and Tijana Spasojevic and Katie Poluta. The match went to a tiebreaker, with the Texas duo prevailing, 10-8, to give the Longhorns a 1-0 advantage.
Singles started off in favor of the Longhorns when Katie Poluta defeated Mary Beth Hurley, 6-4, 6-2. However, Ohio State tied the match at two with a 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 win by Luna Dormet on court five over Tijana Spasojevic and a 7-6, 7-5 victory by Isabelle Boulais over Anna Turati on court two.
Texas pulled ahead 3-2 when Fernanda Labrana defeated Danielle Wolf in three sets on court four. Labrana won the first set 6-4 but Wolf forced a third with a 6-4 victory. The Longhorn won the third, 6-2.
On court three, Buckeye Kolie Allen came from a set down against Bojana Markovic to tie the match at three, winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The final decision came down to court one, where Buckeye Shiori Fukuda and Bianca Turati were battling. The Longhorn won the first set 6-1 but Fukuda rallied with a 7-5 win in set two to force a tiebreaker. In the third set, Turati pulled away to win 6-2 and clinch the team victory.
