COLUMBUS, Ohio–The Ohio State Pistol team hosted Coast Guard, the defending National Champions, over the weekend and posted a record-breaking Open score of 6,673, while the women totaled 3,269. The Bears came in with tallies of 6,623 and 3,085 in the Open and Women’s events, respectively.

The Open Sport team of Katelyn Abeln, Samuel Gens, Cade Haiby and Bernard Melus set a new record by shooting 2,262.
Several Buckeyes set new personal bests against Coast Guard. These include Abeln (549 standard | 1,676 3-gun aggregate | 1,127 2-gun aggregate), Robert Delagrange (548 standard | 560 sport | 1,650 3-gun aggregate), Haiby (568 sport), Con Marrinan (547 standard | 1,644 3-gun aggregate), Melus (558 standard | 565 sport | 1,665 3-gun aggregate) and Emily Rust (554 open and women’s air).
Other notable highlights from the match consist of Abeln coming in at first in all three women’s events, first in air, fourth in standard and fifth in sport. Also contributing to the win were Haiby earning second in sport, Shrenik Jain scoring second in air and Gens coming in third for both sport and air. Finally, Melus won first in standard and third in sport.
The team is back in action next weekend as they take on Texas A&M at College Station, Texas.
